Derek Goring

Dr Derek Goring has been a research scientist for more than 25 years, since gaining his PhD from Caltech in 1978. The topic of his thesis was propagation of tsunami from the deep ocean onto the continental shelf. On his return to New Zealand, he worked on river hydraulics, but latterly he has specialised in eco hydraulics and coastal oceanography, with special emphasis on developing novel data analysis techniques. Since joining Mulgor Consulting Ltd in December 2003, he has been involved mainly in developing real time systems for nowcasting long ocean waves for port companies.
