Wave Buoys
The Triaxys wave buoy pictured here is a floating buoy that samples at 2Hz for 20 minutes every half hour and transmits its data to a PC at NorthPort.
The virtual wave buoy uses sea-level data from the recorder on Frenchman Island to infer swell wave heights. It is only approximate, and only works for swell waves greater than 1 m significant wave height.
